Computational stability of an initially radial solution of a growth/dissolution problem in a nonradial implementation
1991
We consider a free boundary problem modelling the growth/dissolution of a crystal. The aim is to investigate the following question: Does the solution to the crystal growth problem posed in two dimensions with radially symmetric initial and boundary condition evolve as a radially symmetric solution?
Axisymmetric solutions for a chemotaxis model of Multiple Sclerosis
2018
In this paper we study radially symmetric solutions for our recently proposed reaction–diffusion–chemotaxis model of Multiple Sclerosis. Through a weakly nonlinear expansion we classify the bifurcation at the onset and derive the amplitude equations ruling the formation of concentric demyelinating patterns which reproduce the concentric layers observed in Balò sclerosis and in the early phase of Multiple Sclerosis. We present numerical simulations which illustrate and fit the analytical results.
IS ALR SUGGESTING A LEFT–RIGHT SYMMETRIC SOLUTION?
1996
The implications of the recent measurement of the left–right asymmetry ALR by the SLD collaboration for the left–right symmetric theory are examined. We show that it is possible to arrange for a large, negative value of S, without serious side effects for other observables within this model. We also consider a restricted model with specified Higgs structure, where limits on MZ2 can be obtained.
An intrinsic characterization of spherically symmetric spacetimes
2010
We give the necessary and sufficient (local) conditions for a metric tensor to be a non conformally flat spherically symmetric solution. These conditions exclusively involve explicit concomitants of the Riemann tensor. As a direct application we obtain the {\em ideal} labeling of the Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordstr\"om and Lema\^itre-Tolman-Bondi solutions.
